Polished concrete floor

Polishing

Polishing is a treatment of the concrete floor which, thanks to the use of silicates, gives an aesthetic appearance of considerable impact.

How does concrete polishing take place today?

The floor is first sanded with the use of special machines equipped with a rotating diamond disc that eliminates slight differences in height and imperfections. The process is repeated several times using grits of different sizes, in ascending order, which will produce an abrasion on the surface. The dust produced is collected by vacuum cleaners directly connected to the sander, preventing it from being dispersed into the air. At each stage, the floor has an increasingly shiny appearance.

The 10 advantages of polishing concrete

  • Striking aesthetic appearance : the high gloss of the surface makes the environment brighter;
  • Effective cleaning of dirt that has settled on the floor, which is completely removed;
  • Improved abrasion resistance because the cortical part of the flooring, i.e. the weakest, is eliminated;
  • There will be no tire streaks;
  • Improved hygiene by reducing dust production;
  • Easier cleaning as the surface is smooth;
  • Ecofriendly: the procedure is mechanical and does not use substances that can release polluting particles into the air;
  • Improvement of an obsolete area without invasive interventions;
  • Pigmentation is revived;
  • Low cost with multiple improvements.

These benefits can be enhanced by the application of a silicate treatment, after an initial abrasion. The product, penetrating the concrete, creates a glossy surface, easily cleanable, more waterproof and with different colors.

Polishing a concrete floor is an excellent and economical solution, intended for sectors or areas where a resin coating is not necessary.  It is appropriate and correct to specify, however, that the performance guaranteed by resin coatings cannot be completely replaced by polishing treatment:

  • Chemical resistance;
  • Mechanical resistance;
  • Maximum hygiene;
  • Waterproofing;
  • No joints.
